The Warner Bros. and Paramount merger is set to close in the coming days, and now we know where the future of the DCU will be headed.
According to a new report from Deadline, both James Gunn and Peter Safran, who act as the co-heads of DC Studios, will remain on board the company soon to be known as Skydance. The report mentions that both Gunn and Safran had met with Skydance co-CEO David Ellison about their future, and it seems to have gone well.
Currently, the DCU is enjoying a huge boost in excitement following the release of HBO’s Lanterns. The show is set to air its season finale this week, with some big movies coming after.
What’s coming next for James Gunn’s DCU after Lanterns?Following Lanterns’ conclusion this week, the DCU’s next adventure comes in the form of Clayface, a horror film centered around the Batman villain of the same name. That movie is set to release in theaters on October 23, and comes from director James Watkins and writers Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.
After Clayface, the DCU will continue with Gunn’s return to Superman. Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to the hit DCU film, will premiere on July 9, 2027, and continue the adventures of Superman and Lex Luthor, as they presumably take on Brainiac in a movie that sees the foes having to team up.
On the television side, the DCU’s next known project is The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a mockumentary that features The Flash villain, as well as Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen from Superman. The show is presented as a true crime investigation from Olsen, who is exploring the conviction of Grodd for the murder of his father, the king of Gorilla City. Jimmy Tatro will play the role of Grodd in the series.
As far as future DCU plans go, there are several that are still in development. A second season of Creature Commandos, an animated Miracle Man series, and a planned Batman and Wonder Woman movie are all in various stages of work, though no details about them are known just yet.
