The Golden State Warriors are close to getting Steph Curry committed to the franchise for the rest of his career. The Warriors and Curry will begin extension discussions whenever both sides are ready.

Curry is in line for a massive extension that could potentially cover the remainder of his career. He could receive as much as $136 million.

“What the terms of a new extension look like for Curry will be completely up to him, as the Warriors are prepared to offer their star whatever he wants. If Steph wants the full $136.7 million through the 2028-29 season, he will get that. If he wants to take a discount to help the team, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. will have no problem with said deal," NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.

However, if Curry decides to wait on the extension, it could benefit the Warriors next summer.

“There's still players becoming contract extension eligible. By next week you'll start to see Steph Curry's name come up. On the 29th of August he's extension eligible for his contract. I have argued that it should be considered that Steph doesn't sign the extension yet. If he chooses to sign right now, he could get two years at $140 million. Obviously if that's what he says he wants, you give it to him. But if he doesn't sign his contract extension right now the Warriors could have over $100 million in salary cap space next summer," ESPN's Brian Windhorst said.

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes the four-time NBA champion could wait on the extension and ultimately sign for around $100 million.

“Pencil in Curry back with the Warriors, but at a discount closer to $100 million through 2028-29,” Pincus wrote.

Waiting on the deal could be great for Golden State, especially when it comes to building a more competitive roster next summer. Most of the current contracts on the books are only in place for one more season.

Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler are also entering the final years of their respective contracts. If Curry is willing to take a discount on his extension, the Warriors could have more flexibility to retain those veterans while also pursuing major free agents.

Curry has always been loyal to the organization that drafted him, and taking a team-friendly deal could prove that once again. If he is willing to sacrifice some money to give Golden State more flexibility, it could help the Warriors make one final championship push with their franchise cornerstone.
