The story follows Migo, a Yeti who has spent his life in a secluded village high in the Himalayas, where residents follow traditions passed down through generations. His world changes after he witnesses a plane crash and comes across a human, a discovery that challenges the village’s long-held belief that such creatures do not exist.
When the other Yetis refuse to accept his account, their leader, the Stonekeeper, banishes Migo from the community. He later encounters the Smallfoot Evidentiary Society, a group led by Meechee, the Stonekeeper’s daughter, that questions the teachings governing their lives. With their encouragement, Migo sets out to investigate the world outside his village and find evidence that could prove his discovery was real.
The voice cast features Tatum as Migo and Zendaya as Meechee. Others include James Corden as Percy Patterson, Common as the Stonekeeper, and LeBron James as Gwangi, among others.
Directed by Karey Kirkpatrick, the film received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Smallfoot holds a 76 percent critics score based on 129 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience score stands at 62 percent. Geoffrey Macnab of Independent wrote, “Smallfoot may not be on the level of the best Pixar and Dreamworks efforts but it will make passable half-term viewing for family audiences.”
