Weather: Heavy downpours, hail and damaging winds to hit ONE province

Here is what the weather has in store for KZN, the Free State, and the North West on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms is in place for central to eastern North West, with heavy rain, hail, damaging winds and lightning expected.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and rain.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to south-easterly, becoming moderate to fresh north-easterly in the extreme south and spreading to Durban in the evening.

The UVB sunburn index will be moderate.

DURBAN

Durban will be cloudy with isolated showers and rain

The wind will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming north-easterly in the evening.

Temperatures will range from 16°C to 20°C.

FREE STATE

Cloudy in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and cold to cool, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except over the south-eastern parts.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein is going to be partly cloudy, windy with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 08°C to a maximum of 21°C.

NORTH WEST

North West is going to be cloudy, windy and cold to cool, becoming partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers.

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng is going to be cloudy and windy, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 13°C. to a maximum of 15°C.
