hi all,
been going thru my books and i looked up one of the authors, rf kuang, and some of the feedback i saw she got was that she was "talking down" to the reader. i had some issues with her latest books, but mainly pertaining to how unedited/unpolished they felt/read to me, so im trying to figure out what folks mean when they say "she talks down to readers"?
this is a genuine question. im not bashing her but i also just wanna see if it's a similar issue to what i had, just worded differently. I found way too much repetition in her latest books compared to babel (which to me read as WAY more edited/refined than yellowface or katabasis upon re-reading). But im genuinely curious to know what y'all mean when you say "she talks down to readers" in her writing?
Eta: genuinely not sure why im being downvoted lol im not bashing her, i was genuinely curious what folks meant and if it was a similar thing to what i saw.
downvoting me to hell feels extremely unnecessary for a fairly innocuous question.
eta2: im blocking anyone who comments on this not having read her work but still decides to comment about her writing style. genuinely, ask yourself why you felt the need to shit on an asian woman for writing books you didn't read.
and to those of you who love babel -- guess what? that's one of my favorite books. you're allowed to love your stuff the way you want to, but to be clear, it's pretty obvious i wouldn't be spending my money on her books and still keeping it and re-reading it if i just wanted to shit on her. im also blocking anyone who tries to call me illiterate. lol if anything, i find it unhealthy to not accept that the things you love have flaws. putting things on a pedestal like that is giving religious zealot vibes.
