Looking at these pictures, I feel we have lost something in modern construction.

Our older buildings were not all the same. They had courtyards, beautiful columns, detailed work, shaded spaces and designs suited to the local climate. Beauty and function often went together.

Today, a lot of buildings are basically concrete boxes with the same windows, balconies and AC units everywhere.

Of course, we cannot build exactly like the past. Cities are bigger, land is expensive and modern buildings have different requirements.

But modern doesn't have to mean boring.

Maybe we don't need to copy old architecture. We just need to learn from it and create something that is modern, functional, and still has an Indian identity.
