It could be a book you intentionally read once a year, it could be a book you fall back on after finishing a book with no next read planned, it could be something you occasionally read a chapter from.
Whatever your version of comfort is, I’m so curious about what it is, and what style of comfort it fills.
This came up, because someone in our group mentioned how The Hobbit is her comfort book, not because she’s particularly a huge fan of fantasy or Tolkien, but because she has such a deeply intimate memories of reading it to her son.
It took a while to come up with mine, but a few people were surprised when I said When Breath Becomes Air, because it is a very very upsetting book to them. But maybe it was the circumstances of when I read it, or the messages I took from it, but some of the chapters, paragraphs, or single sentences in that book are, to me at least, some of the most poignant views on life we could ever hope to feel.
So it’s not necessarily a yearly re-read, but it is a book I will open time and time again, whether I am feeling low about life, feeling high, stressed, whatever it may be, it feels like there is something he said that can apply and contextualise my experience in a grander meaning.
So anyway, I would love to hear what book does this to you, what book fills that void or elevates your day, whatever the case may be.
