Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has clarified that he never promised President Bola Tinubu he would defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time show on Tuesday night, Wike said his commitment was limited to supporting the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
“I told them I would support the President right from the start. I never told Mr. President I will join APC. Go and ask him,” he stated.
The minister also dismissed any suggestion that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma could influence him to join the ruling party.
“If I want to join APC, it’s not people like Hope who will tell me to join APC,” Wike said.He added: “In fact, he is lucky I’m not in APC because I wouldn’t put up with that kind of nonsense he’s doing in APC.”
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has consistently maintained that his support for Tinubu is personal and does not require him to join the APC.
