Context: Cao Cao and Liu Bei were two prominent warlords of the late Han Dynasty.
They fought against and alongside each other over their years, with Cao Cao seeing Liu Bei as a dangerous future rival and a hero of his time.
Liu Bei was a very charismatic and talented despite his very humble upbringing (he sold sandals before his military career), and would prove Cao Cao right as their factions would clash many times, with Liu Bei taking part in Cao Cao’s greatest defeat at the Battle of Red Cliffs
They would both lay the foundations for 2 of the 3 Kingdoms of the aptly named Three Kingdoms period, with Cao Cao’s son Cao Pi usurping the Han dynasty and beginning the Wei dynasty, and Liu Bei declaring himself the successor to the Han, though history remembers his regime as the Shu Han dynasty or even just simply Shu because of the region
