I've got smart dimmer switches in my home office, my gym, the kitchen, and most of my basement, and in three years not one has failed to turn on. That reliability is why I lean on smart switches instead of smart bulbs. But those switches work partly because of when my house was built. Move one onto an older wall and it might do nothing.
