Zach Braff almost had an MCU moment. The Scrubs star and director revealed he got very close to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmaker reflected on how close he came to directing Marvel’s Wonder Man, revealing new details about his discussions with the studio.

In an interview with Yahoo Canada, Donald Faison of Scrubs fame revealed that he has always pushed Braff to work with Marvel. In response, Braff revealed that he did, in fact, get close to working with the studio. “Donald and I both have a shared love of the show Wonder Man,” said Braff.

“And he’s always wanted me to work wth Mavel. So I had a meeting with then, and I was like, ‘I love your show. Pls put me on the list for consideration to direct season 2.’ And they said, ‘We love your work. Yes, consider yourself on the list.’ And Donald and I were high-fiving, and then about a week later they said, ‘You know that show that’s very popular and just got Emmy nominations? We’ve canceled it.'”

Why Braff’s Marvel revelation hits differently now

Braff’s revelation shows Marvel was in talks with top talent and was seriously working on making season 2 a reality. Unfortunately, it seems fans will have to keep waiting to see Wonder Man show up in the MCU. Destin Daniel Cretton, James Ponsoldt, Tiffany Johnson, and Stella Meghie directed episodes of the first and only season.

Marvel Television’s Wonder Man debuted on Disney+ earlier this year. While the show was universally praised, it reportedly suffered from low viewership. Initially, Marvel Studios had renewed it for a second season, but it was ultimately canceled in July, upsetting many Marvel fans, including series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. During the awards season, Wonder Man performed well at the Primetime Emmys, with Abdul-Mateen II nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Wonder Man is available to stream on Disney+.
